Networking Fair: 4:45 - 6 PM, Newcomb Ballroom

Join us for a workshop and networking fair for graduate students. The afternoon will begin with an informational workshop covering the importance of and the basics of networking outside the academy. Graduate students are then invited to attend a networking fair with representatives from various non-academic and alt-ac fields, giving students a chance to practice their networking skills and to learn about a variety of fields and careers and the skills, knowledge, and experiences needed to succeed in them.

This is not a job fair, so no materials are required and representatives will not be promoting or describing particular jobs; rather, students will have conversations about general fields and career paths. Students are encouraged to consider, before arriving, how to describe their experiences, skills, and interests at a networking event, but no special preparation is needed; the event is intended to give students experience with networking in a relatively informal atmosphere. Refreshments will be available, including wine and cheese.
